Testimonials Parents: "The education your child receives at Overfield cannot be gained anywhere else in the area. Higher level thinking skills, creativity, imagination, problem-solving and discovery are not things that are valued and taught at other early childhood programs as they are at Overfield. You provide a strong foundation for lifelong learning."
"Overfield teaches my child how to learn, not what to learn."
"If I were to describe Overfield in one word, it would be "magical." I have never encountered a place that practically shines with possibility like Overfield does."
Community: "As a first grade teacher in Tipp City, I have had the privilege to have many students come from Overfield. Students from Overfield exhibit an abundance of knowledge. Each year I'm amazed at the level of creativity these students demonstrate and their ability to utilize their imagination to solve grade level questions in my classroom."
Visitors: "What a pleasure for me to be back at Overfield as an Artist in Residence. The natural setting and extraordinary views continue to be inspiring. Students are inquisitive and creative and have great relationships with their peers. They work well collaboratively, a tribute to Overfield's philosophy. Overfield's vision of combining experiences and ideas with research, materials and techniques is a great way for children to make sense of their world and is a strong foundation for their future. I am so happy my daughter explored the experiential richness during her formative years."
"We recently performed our new show for children entitled Water at Overfield. To our delight, both the children and their parents enthusiastically participated. Overfield Early Childhood Program is a rare school that perfectly fuses education, arts, humanities and discovery. Their hands-on learning philosophy is evident as soon as one walks in the door. Thank you so much for having us!"
After being with the Overfield children during a week's residency of dancing and singing, Rick Good, cofounder of Rhythm in Shoes, said, "Overfield is an oasis in the desert of American Education."
"With over three decades visiting schools for students of all ages, I can honestly say that Overfield holds a special, unique place in my heart. It is a place where students are accepted where they are, and paid close attention to, with teachers documenting student's growth with a sense of detail that I have never seen. This gives parents of those students a clear picture of what their children are thinking and doing at school, which far surpasses any experience I had with my own children, who would come home and when asked: "What did you do at school today?" would reply something perfunctory, like, "Played with toys." Overfield parents have a chance to see with detail the child's world outside the home, and are given the information to help them help their child integrate home and the outside world through being able to converse about those things which usually remain buried in the child's experience without parental involvement.
Teachers at Overfield are completely committed to their craft. They consistently model the things we want our children to learn: respect for others, a love of and an excitement for learning, clear communication, a sense of hospitality and friendliness. The vision exhibited at Overfield is long-ranging. For example, their visiting artist's program is no 'one-shot hello-goodbye' visit. Artists are chosen who can give extended residency time to Overfield so that the children can see them multiple times. Teachers and staff weave these visits into a long-term, annually recurring series of experiences for the children which continue throughout the child's entire time at Overfield, be it one year or four years. The child can experience the artists they come to know on different levels as they grow through all the stages of these formative years. The children REMEMBER these artists." - Jim McCutcheon "The Guitar Man," visiting artist
